The No.1 Software for Busy Mechanics in Malaysia
BLOGS Running a workshop means managing everything all at once. He’s in a bay. He’s on the phone with a supplier. He’s telling a customer why the car isn’t ready yet. He’s managing three mechanics, a front-counter staff, and cars coming in by 9 AM. Most workshops using ENGARAGE don’t have a dedicated admin. The owner handles the software himself- between jobs, between calls, between everything else. When he opens the app, 30 seconds is being generous. That’s the design constraint we’ve been working under since day one. Not “Is this feature powerful?” but “Can someone figure this out in 30 seconds, in the middle of a busy day?” Every decision in ENGARAGE 2.0 traces back to that question. It Worked. But Working Isn’t the Same as Being Good The previous version of ENGARAGE worked. Workshops digitalized. Data started flowing. That was the goal and we hit it. But as the product grew, complexity crept in the way it always does, one reasonable addition at a time. A new setting here. An extra step in that flow. Features that made sense individually but added up to an interface that required more mental overhead than the people using it could afford. We also learned something that only real usage teaches you. The ideal user has time to explore. The actual user is busy running the workshop, managing staff, and getting cars out the door. So, when we scoped the rebuild, the core thought process behind it was ‘Just because something works, doesn’t mean it cannot be improved’ And that principle doesn’t expire with this release. It stays constant. The Decisions That Came Out of That Question https://engarage.io/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ENGARAGE-2.0-3.mp4 We kept the old interface alive on purpose Forcing every user onto the new UI on day one would have been the technically cleaner choice. One codebase, one experience, done. We did not do that. ENGARAGE 2.0 ships with a New Look / Classic toggle, every user can stay on the familiar interface for these first six months, post release and move to the new one when they’re ready. The choice is remembered. No flash, no reset. This cost us engineering time. It was worth it. The fastest way to destroy trust with a user who has no time to relearn things is to force them to relearn things. Beyond feature completeness We stopped asking what information we could put on the dashboard and started asking what information someone needs when they open it. For an instance, the Attendance module now shows status in plain language. Not a code, not a color. “+19m late.” Someone who glances at a screen for four seconds knows exactly what’s happening. https://engarage.io/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Attendance-_-ENGARAGE-by-POMEN-Google-Chro-2026-08-10-17-32-15_1.mp4 These are small things, but they add up. We built undo before we built anything else new If we’re being direct, the reverse and delete flows were the least glamorous part of this rebuild. They don’t appear in any marketing headline. They don’t screenshot well. They might be the most vital upgrade we shipped. Before ENGARAGE 2.0, a mistake in a work order, advancing it a stage too early, invoicing before the job was done, required a workaround. Sometimes a support call. Sometimes data that couldn’t be recovered cleanly. For someone who has no time, a mistake that costs 20 minutes of firefighting is not just an inconvenience. It’s a reason to stop trusting the software. Now every core transaction flow- work orders, invoices, quotations, purchase orders – has a proper reverse path. Step it back one stage at a time. The system cleans up what needs to be cleaned up. Inventory corrects itself. The audit trail stays intact. Corrections are not edge cases. They’re Tuesday. Mechanic AI : The Same Principle, Taken Further Instead of navigating to the inventory module, finding the search bar, filtering by category, checking the result, you ask. “How many stocks of 195/65 R15 tires we have now?” You get the quantity, the price, the bin location, and a low-stock flag if it applies. One line. 4 seconds. https://engarage.io/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Attendance-_-ENGARAGE-by-POMEN-Google-Chro-2026-08-10-17-32-15_1.mp4 Another example: instead of pulling up the Reports tab, selecting a date range, choosing a report type, you ask. “What were our top five services last month?” You get the answer in plain language, with the numbers. For write actions – adjusting stock, creating a catalogue item, Mechanic AI walks you through a confirmation step before anything changes. It respects user permissions. It doesn’t act without asking first. We built it this way because the people using this software are not power users who want to explore. They want the answer. They want to get back to the bay. What We’re Building Every release is also a question. The in-app guided tour is available as soon as you sign in. The analytics hub – seven tabs, rebuilt from scratch – is genuinely powerful. We’ll be watching which ones get used and which ones don’t and cutting accordingly. More features is not the goal. The right features, surfaced at the right moment, is the goal. Mechanic AI is live and fully shipped and this is just the beginning. There’s a roadmap of new capabilities coming, and we’ll be introducing them progressively. What you’re using today is the foundation, what’s coming will build on it. Who This Is Really For There are between 15,000 and 20,000 independent workshops in Malaysia. Most are still running on paper or Excel at best. The ones who’ve tried software often found it took more time to manage than it saved because it was built for a different kind of user. We’re building something that works for the actual user. The one who has cars to fix, jobs to track, and a workshop to run. And that changes how you build. Every decision in this release traces back to the same fundamental. “Just because something works doesn’t mean it cannot be improved” ENGARAGE 2.0 is now live. If you’re already using ENGARAGE, we’d love for you to explore what’s changed. Register to ENGARAGE Here
